Just Let Me: My Journey with MS

By NayEunique:

Just let me wince uninterrupted.
Give me sec. Let me recover on my own from a stumble.
Calm down, relax. Sometimes I may grimace from pain.
I need you not to fall apart if I take a tumble.

Just let me hold the walls, let me
Catch my bearings. Just let me sort
Through the fumbles and brain fog
Without your constant staring.

Just let me…

I don’t want to come off harsh.
I know you are coming from a place of genuine concerns and worries.
However…
All the hovering, all the questions, my patience,
It quickly scurries.
Please, go about your day. And I’ll
Go about mine.
And if and when I feel the need to,
I’ll let you know when I’m not fine.

Until then, just let me…

I do not need a body guard
Nor a babysitter.
And though slower now,
With many things, I am still capable, I have the ability.
Let me hold on to some
Of my independence, while I still can,
Even with my disability.

Just let me…

I know you’re in my corner.
And me struggling, you hate to see.
I’ll admit, the chronic pain, flares, every day tasks,
Tend to be quite hard for me.

But sometimes, sometimes,
I need you to just let me.
Let me grunt without being questioned.
It’s okay, let ME grab it.
Today’s not my best day, a bad mood, just let me have it.

Just let me…
